?Using Light Therapy for Depression

Depression is one of the few disorders that can be treated successfully, and it responds well to it. But to find out which type of treatment works best is difficult, especially one that is new to the market such as light therapy for depression. But there are many medical conditions similar to depression, and medications can cause the symptoms of depression–fatigue, loss of pleasure, or sadness. And for a fact depression will not leave until the actual problem is not only identified but treated correctly.
Conventional methods for treating depression include psychotherapy, electroconvulsive or ECT therapy, and antidepressant drugs. The medical field recognizes that treatments for depression can vary, depending on its severity and its cause. Both holistic practitioners and traditional medical physicians agree that for extremely serious depressions, light therapy for depression should be considered as a complementary treatment as compared to the conventional ones.
These complementary conditions considered acceptable for light therapy for depression would be seasonal depression or seasonal affective disorders, not major or chronic depressions such as manic depression or manor depressive disorders. But there are several other conditions, including the light therapy for depression of SAD, that accept light therapy as an excellent treatment–early morning insomnia, productivity enhancement, night-owl insomnia, jet lag, late-shift drowsiness, bulimia, lupus, nonseasonal depression, or even prolonged menstrual cycles.
A lot of the early research on light therapy for depression has been inadequately funded, which has led to its lack of research at the very beginning. Also the studies had lots of flaws in its design problems, which caused them to be weak in their quality.
But research in Canada has completed one of the most recent studies that says light therapy for depression is just as effective of a treatment as medications, and is considered to be the safest treatment for bipolar depression. And not only is it effective, it is cheaper than traditional medication and treatments, in addition to being much safer with fewer side effects. Almost all of antidepressant treatments, except lithium, have the ability to make the condition of bipolar disorder much worse than without them, forcing an increase of subtle “manic side” symptoms.
When applying light therapy for depression treatments for winter depression or season affective disorder, light therapy originally started out with early morning treatments. But recent results have demonstrated how light therapy treats depression is still unknown, and is very much unestablished in its results. Recent studies have shown us that research in light therapy may occur in the evenings or other times with just as good of results.

You may have heard about Swine Flu in the news and wondered what the disease really was, as well as whether you or your loved ones are at risk, and what can be done about it.
Swine Flu is the newest deadly disease that’s been taking a toll on human lives. There are many misconceptions regarding to the recent outbreak. Here are some basic things you should know about the Swine Influenza.
The Swine Flu epidemic is caused by the spread of the new H1N1 influenza virus strain, which was first detected last March. It was detected in three areas of Mexico, but it took a month for it to be clinically identified. Then strains of the virus were found in various Mexican cities, the USA., and other northern-hemisphere countries.
When the new Swine Flu strain found its way to Canada, United Kingdom, Spain, Israel, and New Zealand, the World Health Organization decided to raise its pandemic alert level to 4. This means that the virus has a sustained human-to-human transmission.
But despite its high alert level, the WHO announced that most people who get the Swine Flu virus recover from it without the use of drugs or even medical attention.
The new Swine Flu virus is said to be the combination of several influenza strains. The analysis of the new H1N1 influenza strain, by the United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention, found that it is made from one strain which is endemic in humans, two strains endemic in Eurasian and American pigs, and one strain endemic in birds.
The world has been alarmed about the increasing death toll the Swine Flu epidemic has caused in Mexico. Both the WHO and the CDC has expressed concern that it can become a serious flu pandemic, because it can be transferred from human to human. Government agencies across the world are monitoring the situation at the moment and reporting to the World Health Organization about any suspected Swine Flu victims.
For unknown reasons, the only deaths known to occur as a result of the swine flu epidemic occurred in Mexico. It is seen to affect even young and healthy adults. Therefore, in theory, anyone can get the swine flu. Each one of us must therefore be cautious and try to avoid contact with sick people, even if they’re not affected by swine flu.
New Zealand is the lone southern-hemisphere country that has a confirmed case of swine flu. There are countries that have advised their citizens to refrain from travelling to infected areas, so that they will avoid getting it. Some countries, such as the United Arab Emirates, ban the import of pork products, as a precautionary measure against the epidemic.

?The Importance of Meditation for Tuning Up Chakras

Meditation has been around for over 5,000 years and has become quite popular in recent years. Originally, meditation was used only in certain religions, but has now crossed over to be used for medicinal as well as psychological purposes. Many are now using meditation for tuning up chakras. Chakras are the spinning energy centers inside our body. They resemble spinning wheels and are connected to sound, light and color. In fact, the word chakra is a Sanskrit word that means ‘wheel’ or ‘circle’. When we are feeling energetic and in good spirits, our chakras are in good shape.
A more modern and recent interpretation of chakra is the center of activity in our body that receives, absorb and express our life force energy. It is referring to the disk or wheel flowing from our major nerve center forward from the spinal column. We have six of these wheels stacked as energy from the base of our spine to the center of our forehead. We have a seventh wheel that is beyond our physical area, but the six major chakras are what corresponds and responds with our consciousness. These chakras have a lot to do with our physical health, spiritual health and overall well-being. Meditation for tuning up chakras is used by many as a means to get their spirits in good working order.
In order to have our chakras working, as they should, everything in our body has to be in perfect alignment and balance. The use of acupuncture in some countries is a form of using meditation for tuning up chakras. It has now become medically proven that our emotional and spiritual well-being can greatly affect our physical being. This is why many doctors will prescribe antidepressants for patients with physical symptoms where there is no physical diagnosis. It has been proven that stress and severe depression can bring on actual physical symptoms and illness in an otherwise healthy person.
To avoid the use of drugs and medication, many have turned to meditation. Meditation has proven to be very helpful and successful in many health problems. In order for meditation to be as successful as possible, our “chakras” has to be in perfect balance and condition. Meditation for tuning up chakras helps to put us in the balance we need. It is used in the same way that certain natural remedies such as acupuncture are used. It pinpoints the exact areas of our body that need to be in balance emotionally and spiritually. The use of medication for tuning up chakras is widely used in many religions and medical facilities that use meditation.

Whilst yoga generally is renowned for helping the body to be healthy and flexible, there are also different styles of yoga, which focus’s on the more spiritual aspects and increasing the latent energy contained within all of us.
Kundalini yoga-also known as the ‘lock of hair of the beloved’ this is a term used as a way of depicting the way that energy flows through us and by using Kundalini Yoga, we can awaken this energy within us, by means of postures, breathing exercises, meditation and by use of chanting.
This is a very powerful system which increases our opportunity for individual growth.
Kundalini yoga enjoys simple techniques which are available to everyone, regardless of physical ability or age. Dedicated practice ensures a balanced mind, a renewed connection with your inner wisdom, it helps to increase your vitality and yet be peaceful and strong.
Furthermore for those students who are interested in this discipline, the added advantage is that no previous knowledge is required before the benefits of Kundalini yoga are experienced in a very short time. It simply provides us with the techniques to awaken and harness this energy which lives in all of us, so that we can be happy and healthy.
Where possible, students should attend a class as the teacher will be able to guide and encourage those who are keen to learn. Each class will usually look at undergoing warm ups for flexibility and work on the spinal area. There will be an exercise sequence relating specifically to inner energy and of course relaxation and meditation to follow.
For those who continually strive to learn, Kundalini yoga has thousands of exercise sets within its system so there are many opportunities for the student to continually develop. It is about encouraging people to strive forwards but to not exceed their safety limitations.
Exercises themselves can last for 1-3 minutes but could last for longer. Also included within the sessions are:
Mantra’s- these use sound and vibrations for effect.
Mudras-these are hand or body poses which are held during specific exercises or during meditations
Chakra’s-These have a specific frequency and area which they correspond to, such as the heart, solar plexus. Kundalini yoga helps to ensure that the energy flows freely through these areas.
It is worth noting that some beginners may experience some feelings of discomfort initially such as light trembling sensations when in some of the postures or feelings of light-headiness. If this does occur it is worth realizing that it occurs as part of the cleansing of physical and mental toxins.
Kundalini yoga is a lifelong discipline designed to encourage all aspects of self –development so that students can live in a healthy body yet obtain higher consciousness.
